Juan Manuel Alvarez is about to conclude his term as president of Anipac, Mexico´s national plastics industry association, after two years of rapid recovery for a sector hit in 1995 by the nation´s worst economic crisis of modern times. He has held various offices within the processors association throughout the decade.
An accountant by training, Alvarez also is president of Aliplast, the Latin American Plastics Industry Association.
In addition, he is the long-time owner and chief executive officer of two 80-employee plastics extrusion companies — Plathex Internacional SA de CV, a maker of polyethylene disposable gloves and bags, and Poly Bag SA de CV, a manufacturer of printed PE and polypropylene film for packaging. He now also is preparing launch a venture devoted to making recycled plastic lumber and to printing for the packaging and publishing industries.
