Jim Morelli is vice president of sales for Chicago-based Commerx Inc., developers of PlasticsNet.Com. He is a specialist in the development and implementation of growth strategies in both domestic and international businesses. He directs PlasticsNet's effort to recruit buyers and suppliers for the e-commerce area and is instrumental in the construction of an efficient, time-saving system to allow the purchase of multiple materials and equipment in a single transaction.
Morelli joined PlasticsNet from AlliedSignal Corp.'s Plastics Division, where he served most recently as managing director of European operations. He was responsible for devising and implementing the plastics' business growth strategy as a new entrant in Europe. Sales in Europe doubled in each year of his three-year tenure. During his career with AlliedSignal, Morelli also worked as director of sales and marketing for the Americas, increasing revenues from $220 million to $305 million, and as an Eastern region sales director.
Prior to working with AlliedSignal, he designed and developed a worldwide commercial organization for Warner Lambert Co.'s Novon Division. In less than three years, sales grew from zero to $20 million for that new business venture, which encompassed manufacturing and marketing biodegradable polymers. In addition, he held a number of titles during his 15-year career with General Electric Co., including his last position of Northeast district business manager for GE Plastics teams.
Throughout his career, Morelli has developed customer-focused commercial teams, and has worked to . quickly initiate the marketing and sales of new products and their successful entry into new territories.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in math and physical science from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., and he has completed executive programs in quality, marketing and business management.
