Nozzle maker Herzog opens U.S. office WOLFERTSWIL, SWITZERLAND — Herzog AG has opened its own North American office to distribute the company's shut-off nozzles for injection molding machines, after years of selling through Xaloy Inc.
Herzog's sales agreement with Xaloy began in 1992 and expired at the end of 1999, prompting Herzog to set up a direct-sales office in Haverhill, Mass.
Kurt Schuepbach, president of Herzog USA, said the company will employ two or three people in Haverhill initially.
"We are on the way to establishing a network of sales representatives so we can immediately react to customer needs," he said.
All Herzog products — shut-off nozzles, mixing and filter nozzles and components — are manufactured at the headquarters plant in Wolfertswil. Schuepbach said the U.S. operation will handle sales, service and spare parts. Herzog USA also will subcontract final machining of some components to local companies, he said.
Schuepbach said customers will be able to order all products and spare parts via the company's Web site by March.
Herzog also will exhibit at the NPE 2000 show in Chicago.
Annual sales at Herzog are about $4 million. Schuepbach said the business is about evenly split between sales of nozzles to injection press manufacturers and processors.

AC Molding moving, 185 will lose jobs
WALLINGFORD, CONN. — AC Molding Compounds is moving its thermoset compound production from Wallingford to Dallas in a move that will eliminate 185 jobs.
AC Molding is a 50-50 joint venture between Cytec Industries of West Paterson, N.J., and Carmel Chemicals Ltd. of 'Atlit, Israel. AC produces urea and melamine compounds for electrical fixtures, dinnerware and sinks.
The business will be combined with a Dallas-based thermoset compounding business that AC Molding acquired from Borden Chemicals and Plastics LP in October.
AC Molding is operated separately from Cytec, although the businesses shared Cytec's Wallingford site, company spokesman George Yuro said. Cytec had sold other thermoset molding compounds assets last year to Rogers Corp. of Rogers, Conn., and Bulk Molding Compounds Inc. of West Chicago, Ill.
In Wallingford, 150 hourly and 35 salaried jobs will be cut by Aug. 31. Cytec employees at the site will be unaffected by the AC Molding move, Yuro said.
