ARLINGTON, VA. — Ron Yocum, the president of the American Plastics Council, has told senior staff at APC he's not sure if he'll stay at the trade association when his contract expires in March. Yocum came to APC in March 1998 with a three-year contract. He said he told some high-ranking APC officials in recent weeks that he is unsure about serving beyond the contract. Before APC, Yocum had been president and chief executive officer of Millennium Petrochemicals Inc.
"I do love the job and the industry but at some point I want to go off with my wife and go fishing," said Yocum, who said he commutes most weekends from APC, in Arlington, to his home in Michigan.
He stressed he has not made up his mind either way. Yocum said he expects to make a decision in the fall. He said he had hoped APC and the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. would have merged during his tenure.
In the fiscal year ending May 31, 1999, Yocum was paid $480,000 in salary and $241,000 in benefits and deferred compensation.
