The Eaton Rapids, Mich., firm supplies epoxy and polyurethane resins that lead to prototype parts with properties similar to common thermoplastics. PX 216, for example, is a white polyurethane that simulates high-impact polystyrene.

Worthen Industries offers barrier coating
Worthen Industries Inc. developed a water-based barrier coating to help coating of adhesives onto vinyl substrates.
The Nashua, N.H., company said WZ-0248 blocks the softening effects of migrating plasticizers that can affect physical properties of pressure-sensitive tapes and other materials. Worthen claimed the coating is a tough, flexible polymer that adheres well to vinyl.

All Plastics enters special-effect colors
All Plastics Inc. has entered the special-effects pigments market.
The Waterford, Mich., firm said it acquired the technology and assets of Mica-Tek and will offer heat stable, dyed micas in eight colors, food-contact mica pigments, dyed vermiculite in four colors and other products.

Axel Plastics designs pultrusion lubricant
Axel Plastics Research Laboratories developed a processing lubricant for pultrusion.
MoldWiz INT-PUL14 is designed to optimize line speed while minimizing corrosive effects on pultrusion dies. The lubricant is a mixture of fatty amines, organic phosphate esters and fatty acids. It has a pH value of 4.2, according to the Woodside, N.Y., company.

Deerfield Urethane expands Dureflex line
Deerfield Urethane Inc. has expanded its line of polyurethane film and sheet used for security glazing interlayer applications.
New Dureflex aliphatic PU products include clear grades that are self priming or non-self priming. Dureflex bonds well to glass and polycarbonate, is UV resistant and absorbs thermal and mechanical shock. Deerfield is a Bayer Corp. company.

Engelhard introduces SantaFe pigment line
Engelhard Corp. has a new series of special-effect pigments that express two distinct colors when viewed from different angles.
The SantaFe colors are available in three grades with the dominant color representing an earth-tone shade characteristic of the U.S. southwest. Each pigment also has a reflection color in a complementary desert hue. The Iselin, N.J., firm said they can be used in exterior applications because of lightfastness and weather durability.

Sentinel contends plank reduces cost
Sentinel Polyolefins LLC has debuted an ethylene/styrene copolymer plank that promises cost reduction, soft-touch feel and good long-term compression set.
SenFlex-P is a physically blown, noncrosslinked plank that Sentinel claims outperforms typical noncrosslinked foams and nitrogen-expanded crosslinked blocks. The lightweight plank is available in a standard size of 2 inches by 24 inches by 108 inches in white or black. Sentinel of Hyannis, Mass., makes the product from Dow Chemical Co.'s Index interpolymers.

GE Plastics unveils PPO SA120 additive
GE Plastics announced a new additive that allows more freedom in customizing heat performance, fracture toughness and other properties of molding compounds, epoxy thermosets, sealants and adhesives.
PPO SA120 is a very low molecular weight polyphenylene oxide with reduced viscosity for easier processing and compatibility. It can improve toughness, electrical properties, dimensional stability and chemical resistance in a range of polymers, including acrylics, elastomers, polyurethanes, styrenics and phenolics.
