    Worthen Industries offers barrier coating

Worthen Industries Inc. developed a water-based barrier coating to help coating of adhesives onto vinyl substrates.

The Nashua, N.H., company said WZ-0248 blocks the softening effects of migrating plasticizers that can affect physical properties of pressure-sensitive tapes and other materials. Worthen claimed the coating is a tough, flexible polymer that adheres well to vinyl.

    Engelhard introduces SantaFe pigment line

Engelhard Corp. has a new series of special-effect pigments that express two distinct colors when viewed from different angles.

The SantaFe colors are available in three grades with the dominant color representing an earth-tone shade characteristic of the U.S. southwest. Each pigment also has a reflection color in a complementary desert hue. The Iselin, N.J., firm said they can be used in exterior applications because of lightfastness and weather durability.

    Sentinel contends plank reduces cost

Sentinel Polyolefins LLC has debuted an ethylene/styrene copolymer plank that promises cost reduction, soft-touch feel and good long-term compression set.

SenFlex-P is a physically blown, noncrosslinked plank that Sentinel claims outperforms typical noncrosslinked foams and nitrogen-expanded crosslinked blocks. The lightweight plank is available in a standard size of 2 inches by 24 inches by 108 inches in white or black. Sentinel of Hyannis, Mass., makes the product from Dow Chemical Co.'s Index interpolymers.
