TROY, OHIO — Deltech Polymers Corp., a crystal polystyrene maker based in Troy, launched production of its Styrylic-brand styrene methyl methacrylate resin earlier this year. The firm's commercial grade of SMMA can be used as a blend with styrene butadiene block copolymers or as a stand-alone product, according to Deltech sales and marketing manager Brent Reedstrom.
Deltech expects the product to find applications where clear or transparent color housings are needed, such as in consumer electronics, toys or medical devices.
Deltech produces about 145 million pounds of crystal PS in Troy, where it employs 30. No first-year production or sales estimate was available for SMMA.
The privately held firm, a unit of Deltech Corp. of Whippany, N.J., does not release sales figures.
