Chemical and additives suppliers will showcase the latest products to make plastics more attractive and useful to end users, as well as easier to process. Color providers have expanded their pallets. Ashland Distribution Co. (Booth S3421): Plastics additives lines. The firm's industrial chemicals and solvents division sells a broad range of additives from major manufacturers. Products include antioxidants, anti-statics, stabilizers, lubricants, pigments, plasticizers and fillers.
Ashland Specialty Chemical Co. (Booth S4022): Emabond assembly process for bonding and assembly of thermoplastic and thermoset parts.
Axel/Mold Wiz (Booth E13754): Internal lubricants for PVC. New INT-40DHT internal lubricant and processing aid for polyolefins, styrenics and engineering resins. The product also improves pigment dispersion, the company claims. Xtend W-4002, a water-based semipermanent release for rotational molding, which also protects against plate-out.
Camie-Campbell Inc. (Booth E13407): Three aerosol-based mold-release agents formulated for higher efficiency and economy. The Camie products include a silicone-based release, a paintable grade and a lecithin-based release.
Chem-Pak Inc. (Booth E13422): Per-Fix flaw-repair coating for plastic parts. The spray-on product removes cosmetic flaws such as knit and flow lines and gas tracks. The systems are available for ABS, polypropylene, vinyls, nylons and acetals, and styrenics, polycarbonates and acrylics.
Day Glo Color Corp. (Booth N5374): New technology for Gloprill highly dispersed fluorescent colorants for polyolefins. An expanded range of D series fluorescent dyes for engineering resins will be on hand. New Dazzle glitter for low- and high-temperature uses and the NG expanded line of phosphorescent pigments.
Dyneon LLC (Booth N8036): Will discuss expanded use of its Dynamar PPA processing additives. Typically used in polyolefin blown film, the 3M company says new applications are in wire and cable production, extrusion blow molding, and pipe and tubing extrusion for polyolefins and other thermoplastics. New Dynamar grades available for high-temperature and outdoor uses.
Eckart America LP (Booth E13808): Flonac line of pearlescent pigments, Mastercolor gold, blue and green aluminum pigments and large-particle-size aluminum pigments that reduce flow lines. Also will discuss its holographic pigments.
Expancel Inc. (Booth E12720): Expandable thermoplastic microspheres for use as blowing agents, including a new grade for injection molding and extrusion. The microspheres have a polymeric shell enclosing a gas. When the gas is heated it expands the shell 30-50 times its original volume.
Film Specialties Inc. (Booth E13711): Visgard anti-fog coatings for polycarbonate and Visgard PC-coated polycarbonate sheet. The coatings, based on polyurethane, are thermoformable and scratch-resistant. The PC sheet is treated for anti-fog and abrasion resistance and does not craze when bent and flexed.
Goodyear Chemical (Booth E14319): Sunigum G series of elastomeric modifiers designed to provide softer grades of thermoplastic elastomers. The acrylate terpolymer resists heat and ultraviolet light. It also is suited to blending with a range of polyolefins.
Hirotec Inc. (Booth E11932): Demonstration in a dark room of Hirotec's luminescent plastic pellets. Its Performance Pellets concentrates, available in 13 mixable colors, provide high-intensity and long-duration glow for uses ranging from consumer products to safety equipment.
Milliken Chemical (Booth S4018): Will illustrate the growing number of products made from polypropylene clarified with Millad 3988. The company will thermoform cups at the show from PP sheet containing Millad 3988. The thermoformer is part of Milliken's new applications laboratory.
Modern Dispersions Inc. (Booth E10428): Ultraviolet masterbatches for agricultural applications. Also, black polypropylene concentrate that provides very low screen pack buildup in fine-fiber production.
Neutrex Inc. (Booth E11861): Purgex purging compound, a material the company claims works exceptionally well.
Nubiola Pigmentos SL (Booth E13003): A very fine ultramarine pigment, Nubiflow, which has a narrow particle-size distribution, with all particles smaller than 10 microns. This property makes it especially easy to disperse in polymers.
Phoenix Plastics Co. Inc. (Booth E13421): Chemical foaming agents, purge compounds and stabilizer additives for polyolefins, polyesters and nylons.
Polyvel Inc. (Booth E14325): A new line of mold-release aids for injection molding and a new slip additive concentrate for metallocene resins. Also, new Polyvel anti-fog and anti-static concentrates for polyolefins.
Shuman Plastics Inc.'s Dyna-Purge division (Booth S168): Purging agents, including the new Dyna-Purge O grade designed for optical- media resins in production of compact discs and digital versatile discs.
