If Oldsmobile was your father's car, then chances are pretty good that Cadillac was your grandfather's dream set of wheels. If it was, he probably liked a model with a hideous faux-convertible-style vinyl roof. We had to chuckle last week when our sister publication Automotive News reported that Mike O'Malley, Cadillac's new marketing general manager, wants to banish the vinyl roof in an effort to attract younger buyers who like luxury imports.
But Cadillac dealers want to stick with vinyl.
It's a tough decision: Should Cadillac give loyal, but mostly older, customers what they want? Or should it alienate longtime buyers in an effort to attract new purchasers?
Good taste notwithstanding, we have a feeling this is a plastics application that isn't going away any time soon.
