Extrusion Solutions LLC´s MicroCenter measures small-diameter tubing, using a device with an adjustable opening, called a weir.
The company, based in Las Vegas, uses three micrometers to position the weir in relation to the extruder. The distance between the weir opening and the extruder, and the vertical and lateral position of the weir opening within the water bath, now can be controlled within 0.001 inch.
Before MicroCenter, the weir alignment was achieved by moving the entire water trough, which can disrupt the level and stability of the cooling water, according to the company.
The company custom-makes each MicroCenter to fit any water trough. A transparent Lexan mounting plate helps the user set the desired water level.
Extrusion Solutions rolled out MicroCenter in January, at the Medical Design & Manufacturing show in Anaheim, Calif.
