MIDLAND, MICH. (May 24, 1:40 p.m. EDT) — Dow Chemical Co. and Buildscape Inc. are creating an online marketplace for the residential construction industry.
The alliance, announced May 15, seeks to create a faster, more cost-effective procurement process, said John Schaw, Dow vice president for fabricated products.
About 11 percent of Dow´s products are used in home construction, Schaw said.
Buildscape, based in Jacksonville, Fla., operates pilot programs in several states connecting home-building suppliers online with contractors.
With resources from Midland-based Dow, the venture will broaden its services to all U.S. construction markets during the next few months, the companies said in a news release. The alliance also plans to expand its offerings to Canada, Mexico and Europe.
Buildscape currently delivers real-time product and procurement information to home-building professionals and consumers via two Web sites.
