Web site offering resin buyer's co-op AKRON, OHIO — Web-based company Plasticsandchemicals.com is offering a resin buyer's cooperative over its portal.
The cooperative service bundles the purchases of material buyers to leverage their buying power and achieve lower prices.
The site allows the Akron-based company to negotiate prices with suppliers, buy product and have it shipped directly to buyers.
Rapra launching Web-based job fair
SHREWSBURY, ENGLAND — Rapra Technology Ltd. has launched an online job fair for the plastics and rubber industries.
The Shrewsbury-based company will allow companies to post polymer-related job vacancies free of charge until Sept. 1 on the site, www.polymer-jobs.com, and then it will charge an administrative fee, according to a Rapra news release.
Rapra also provides a free search engine for polymer-related sites at www.polymer-search.com.
Dow alliance creating online marketplace
MIDLAND, MICH. — Dow Chemical Co. has formed a alliance with Buildscape Inc. to create an online marketplace for the residential construction industry.
The alliance, announced May 15, will work on improving the efficiency of the building materials procurement process. About 11 percent of Dow's products are used in home-construction, John Schaw, Dow vice president for fabricated products, said in a news release.
Buildscape, in Jacksonville, Fla., operates pilot programs in several states, connecting home-building suppliers online with contractors.
With resources from Midland-based Dow, the alliance will broaden its services to all U.S. construction markets during the next few months, the company said in the news release. The alliance also plans to expand its offerings to Canada, Mexico and Europe.
Buildscape currently delivers real-time product and procurement information to home-building professionals and consumers via two Web sites.
Plastics publication moves to Internet
TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. — Product evaluation source Plastics Product Review has shifted from a print publication to an online service.
The Traverse City-based magazine will move all of its plastic product evaluations to its Web address, www.productreview.org.
The portal will feature evaluations in more than 25 product categories involving equipment and components and will sell an online subscription. Each of the reports also will be available for sale individually to nonsubscribers.
"The Internet allows us to distribute our products more efficiently," said President Adam Schultz, in a written statement. "The site will improve service to our current subscribers with new reports delivered and updated instantaneously."
