Outdoor Advantage Inc. has introduced 13 new residential vinyl fence profiles in its second year of operation. President David Lawrence said his firm has standard residential fence profiles but also has improved versions that are easier to assemble. Standard types include tongue-and-groove profiles 6 inches wide and seven-eighths of an inch thick. Improved profiles include a tongue-and-groove model that is 13.4 inches wide for fewer assembly steps.
Lawrence said in a telephone interview that Outdoor's proprietary fencing has other features that make it easy to assemble in the field.
"There is not enough talent for installation" of vinyl fencing, according to Lawrence. "We developed products to make it easier."
Lawrence was president of Heritage Vinyl Products in Macon, Miss., which was bought by Jannock Ltd. of Toronto in 1996.
Lawrence and other investors formed Snohomish, Wash.-based Outdoor in 1998.
Outdoor converted an abandoned PVC pipe plant in Jacksonville, Fla., to its ranch profile operation, which has capacity of 20 million lineal feet a year. A year later it took over another building at the site for its residential fence extrusion and is capable of making more than 67 million feet of such products annually.
