CHICAGO, — Axel (Booth E13754) has a new, semipermanent mold release, Xtend 19HG, for improved release and less scumming in closed molding operations such as resin transfer molding.
The product offers excellent slip properties despite being a low-solids formulation. The low-viscosity liquid can be wiped on warm molds or applied with spray treatment.
The Woodside, N.Y., company also offers a new processing aid for new ethylene propylene diene monomer elastomers. The chemical affinity new EPDMs have for metal can be a problem, so Axel developed MoldWiz Int-1117EL for processing and release of the polymers. Typically, the material is Banbury-mixed or roll-milled into the EPDM at 0.5-2.5 parts per hundred parts of resin. The product is a soft-solid mixture of alkanes and alkanols.
Axel also developed a new processing lubricant for pultrusion. MoldWiz INT-PUL14 is designed to optimize line speed while minimizing corrosive effects on pultrusion dies. The lubricant is a mixture of fatty amines, organic phosphate ester copolymers and fatty acids and has a pH of 4.2.
