CHICAGO (June 30, 11:40 a.m. EDT) — Charter Films Inc. is expanding by buying a Varex blown film line from Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corp.
The new line, which was on display at W&H´s NPE booth in Chicago, is the third Varex line Charter has purchased from the company since late 1998. Charter, based in Superior, Wis., mainly supplies films for printing and laminating in the food, medical, cosmetic packaging, consumer products and paper industries. Charter also supplies printable, banner, surface-protection and thermoformable films.
W&H said the new line will be connected to the ISP quality-control system, as are Charter´s existing Varex lines. It includes W&H´s Optifile P-2 automatic die control with a capacitive thickness gauge, multiple-component gravimetric control, an oscillating haul-off with the Nostic package for tacky films, and a Filmatic M dual-surface/center/gap winder with automatic roll handling and shaft removal.
Charter also purchased three Universal corona treaters from Pillar Technologies. The corona treaters will allow Charter to treat film from its new 63-inch, three-layer Varex line inside and outside the film bubble, which could open new market opportunities for Charter.
Charter´s first two Varex lines are a 103-inch, monolayer system and an 83-inch, three-layer line.
