CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (July 6, 3 p.m. EDT) — A new plastics-based software company, BuyPlastics.com Inc., will attempt to speed the process of bringing a product to market.
The company, founded by four plastics industry veterans, will offer collaborative design, product data management and storage tools, said Ed Rivera, BuyPlastics.com chief operating officer.
"We´re addressing the needs of the plastics industry in a different way," Rivera said in a recent telephone interview. "Instead of being transaction-based, our proprietary software enables customers to design products from the early stages of market development forward."
The Cambridge-based company wants to help companies collaborate in product development, overcoming some of the inefficiencies in traditional design, Rivera added.
Company principals are President Chuck Hoar, formerly with injection molder Nypro Inc.; Vice President Frank Diodato, formerly with distributor Performance Polymers Inc.; Vice President Tom Podesta, formerly with molder Tech Group Inc.; and Rivera, also a former Nypro executive.
The company is using Web-enabled collaborative tools powered by Parametric Technologies Corp.´s Windchill software package. The company is currently testing its Web site (www.BuyPlastics.com) with several Fortune 50 companies, Hoar said. A rollout is planned in September.
