CHICAGO (July 12, 9:05 a.m. EDT) — Merritt Extruder displayed its rugged system for pipe, profile and tubing extrusion at NPE 2000 in Chicago.
Special accounts manager C. Eric Faust said features include one-piece gearboxes, bolt-on heaters and extra-strong barrel supports.
"When in doubt, make it stout," Faust quipped in an interview at his firm's booth.
Merritt displayed a complete system including a 3-inch Vanguard extruder, die and adapter, vacuum tank, belt haul-off, guillotine saw and integrated process control.
The Vanguard has a high horsepower rating and double reduction gearbox. The Hamden, Conn., firm said the extruder has a base-mounted control panel and is completely prewired for easy installation. The firm's belt haul-off has a 36-inch long contact length to provide precise pulling force. The travelling guillotine saw has an 18-inch table with pneumatic assist for accurate cutting action.
Other Merritt installations at the show were a hot-melt extruder hooked up to the front end of Krupp Werner & Pfleiderer Corp.'s wood fiber-plastic compounding line, and a 2-inch extruder for the cap layer of a thermoplastic polyolefin sheet line displayed by American Leistritz Extruder Corp.
