BOULDER, COLO. (July 28, 4:30 p.m. EDT) — Spatial Inc. is testing a new Web site for processors looking for help from the rapid-prototyping industry.
The site will allow companies to request price quotes online from rapid-prototyping providers. The service, called Bits2Parts.com, will be managed by Spatial´s PlanetCAD.com division.
The site also will include communication and data flow between manufacturers and service providers.
Several companies have signed on to support the site´s beta testing. Among them are Caterpillar Inc. and Cummins Engine Co., and rapid-prototyping service bureaus Express Pattern, ARRK Product Development Group and Soligen Technologies Inc.
Boulder-based Spatial, a provider of Web-based services, has appointed David Tait as general manager of custom manufacturing for PlanetCAD. Tait had served as president of now-defunct rapid-prototyping bureau LaserForm Inc.
PlanetCAD offers Web-hosted application services for manufacturing and design engineers.
The closed testing period, from a limited number of customers, will end in the third quarter, the company said in a written release. At that time, the company will open testing to a larger universe of companies.
