Richard L. Wambold's long career with Tenneco Inc. prepared him to take the reins of that company's packaging business when it was spun off and renamed Pactiv Corp. in 1999. He was initially named CEO of Pactiv, a leading provider of advanced packaging systems to customers around the world, then was elected chairman in March 2000.
Prior to becoming CEO, Wambold served as president of Tenneco Packaging, where he was responsible for the company's $3 billion in revenues. Earlier he was executive vice president and general manager of the Specialty Packaging and Consumer Products business groups. Under his direction, those businesses grew from $550 million in sales in 1994 to $2 billion in 1998. Before joining Tenneco Packaging in 1994, Wambold was executive vice president of Case Corp.'s construction equipment and worldwide parts business, which was previously part of Tenneco.
Wambold joined Tenneco in 1977 and held numerous positions within the organization, including vice president of corporate planning and development.
Wambold earned a bachelor's degree in government and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
