Armed with doctorate degrees in polymer chemistry and technology from England's University of Manchester, Austin Peppin has 37 years experience in the plastic business — including 24 in industry and 13 as head of his own consulting company, specializing in business and market development.
Peppin worked for Shell Chemicals (U.K.) and BP Chemicals (U.K.) before moving to the United States in 1968. Employed by Monsanto Co. in its plastics business for 18 years, he formed Peppin & Associates in 1986. His work experience covers management of plastics research and development, market development, and new venture programs, with particular emphasis in the polyolefins, engineering plastics and specialty plastics businesses. This experience included management of marketing programs covering the U.S. and Europe, and diverse market segments such as automotive, electrical/electronics, business equipment, and sports and recreation.
Since starting his own company, based in Chesterfield, Mo., Peppin has consulted for a large number of international companies in the plastics business. His work has covered strategic and market planning, new product and market opportunity assessment, technology planning, acquisition support studies, and competitive studies and assessment.
Peppin has attended the executive marketing program of the Columbia University School of Business and other business and management programs.
