SAN JOSE, CALIF. (Sept. 7, 5:15 p.m. EDT) — Online service provider Sand Hill Systems Inc. has bought BuyerLink Networks Inc., uniting two large Web players serving packagers in the food and beverage industry.
The companies, both based in San Jose, will offer a broad private network to customers that features online buying and advanced order entry and fulfillment, said marketing director Pam Patterson of Sand Hill, a provider of order-placement systems for several industries.
BuyerLink, founded in December, hosts private trading over its Web site for food and beverage companies. The 10-person firm had sought funding to expand, said BuyerLink co-founder Rich Witherspoon, who was named vice president of marketing for Sand Hill.
The companies both were founded by San Jose-based Portola Packaging Inc. before splitting off last year. They will work under the Sand Hill name.
Sand Hill expects sales to reach $5 million within two years, said Witherspoon, who did not reveal current sales figures. Details of the transaction, completed Sept. 5, were not disclosed.
