LA PORTE, TEXAS — A worker was injured in a Jan. 8 fire at Sunoco Inc.'s polypropylene plant in La Porte. The worker suffered third-degree burns, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to Sunoco spokesman Jerry Davis.
The fire occurred on a PP line that already was down for maintenance. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Sunoco officials were unsure when the line would be restarted.
Shipment to customers served from the La Porte plant, which produces about 800 million pounds of PP annually, will not be affected by the incident, Davis said.
Sunoco completed its $695 million acquisition of the plant and the rest of the former Aristech Chemical Corp. from Mitsubishi Corp. Jan. 2.
