Plastics News staff reporter Steve Toloken reported the following items from the Medical Design & Manufacturing West 2001 show, held Jan. 8-10 in Anaheim, Calif.
Agile Technologies relocates, expands
Polymer Corp., formerly Polymer Design Inc., has expanded and relocated its tool shop.
Polymer Corp. recently moved its toolmaking unit, Agile Technologies, into a 20,000-square-foot building near its current facility in Indianapolis. The expansion nearly triples its floor space and adds three injection presses for low-volume production work.
Agile's new plant is a Class 100,000 clean room. Polymer is based in Rockland, Mass.
Teknor Apex creates new TPE division
Teknor Apex Co. has created a new division for thermoplastic elastomers and separated it from its plastics division, which now will handle its vinyl sales.
The Pawtucket, R.I.-based compounder said the unit will have 15 market managers for areas from appliances to writing instruments. The company decided it needed to sharpen its focus to grow its TPE business, said Suresh Swaminathan, business manager of the TPE unit.
The unit also wants to involve itself more in customers' product development, rather than simply developing specific resin formulations, he said.
