HUNTSVILLE, ALA. — Available Plastics Inc. has promoted machinery veteran Wayne Bent to its newly created position of vice president, chief operations officer.
Bent has worked with extruder Available Plastics since 1987 as an equipment supplier and consultant. He formerly owned Nitec Plastics Machinery, a Jacksonville, Fla., firm that rebuilt and distributed plastics machinery.
Bent joined Available Plastics in November 1999 as general manager after 30 years in the plastics industry, the last 10 as a business owner and consultant.
Available Plastics, a producer of pipe, profile and tubing, is in its second year of a three-year expansion. Last year it spent more than $1 million to add equipment and upgrade its Huntsville head office and plant.
Equipment purchases included a Krauss Maffei 90-millimeter extrusion line and a Milacron 93mm extruder, both of which will perform a variety of jobs, President Steve Brown said in a telephone interview.
Bent helped Available Plastics set up a productivity program and will help it implement ISO 9002 systems and procedures.
Available Plastics has been running eight extrusion lines after the recently installed machinery replaced older capacity. Its sales in 1999 were $9.2 million.
