CEAST USA Inc. is calling its portable impact-testing device the Hobbit.
CEAST introduced the Hobbit and a high-speed data acquisition system called DAS 4000, at the Plastec West 2001 show in Anaheim, Calif.
Using a free-falling striker, the Hobbit tests a range of materials, including plastic film, sheeting and molded products.
The DAS 4000 instantly draws a graph showing the various phases of failure, such as deformation, fracture initiation and fracture propagation. The system also can be used with Izod and Charpy impact pendulums.
CEAST USA is based in Fort Mill, S.C.
