LOS ANGELES — A New York company that cuts compact discs into special shapes, recently succeeded in cutting digital versatile discs without disturbing the bond between the 0.6-millimeter halves.
Vaire LLC of Huntington Station, N.Y., did the job for two Time Warner Inc. units, said Vaire owner Robert Pearl.
"We built high-speed proprietary equipment that cuts full discs down to various shapes," he said in an interview at Replitech North America, held in Los Angeles.
Typically, Vaire cuts CDs or brokers optical-media services.
