SAO PAULO, BRAZIL — Rhodia-ster SA of Sao Paulo has launched a new line of PET resin aimed at the bottle market.
The company claims the Tecna line, despite a higher price, saves processors about $13.60 per ton because of productivity gains at the preform and blow molding stages.
The company would not identify additives in the resin, but said they are approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
"We tried it on the machine of a client who was never able to get his equipment to run at full throttle with any resin in the market. The blow molding machine surpassed the equipment's nominal capacity by 10 percent — to the point of the maintenance manager telling his boss that he was no longer responsible for the machine's conditions," said marketing and planning manager Leandro Fraga Guimaraes.
The S80SP grade is recommended for large-scale markets such as soft drinks and edible-oil packaging, but Rhodia-ster also is marketing it for other uses, such as medication packaging.
