CHICAGO — Atrion Medical Products Inc. has opened a new contract manufacturing division to serve commercial and automotive customers.
The division, called Applied Injection Molding Services, will mold commercial closures and small automotive under-the-hood parts, said AIMS business development manager Mark Dummer.
The division, launched in November, now is beginning to market its services to outside customers, said Dummer, interviewed March 5 at the National Design Engineering Show & Conference in Chicago.
"We have the opportunity to use the existing space and capabilities to mold a variety of products," Dummer said.
The company will work from Atrion's 142,000-square-foot plant in Arab, Ala., and use the facility's 24 injection presses, which have clamping forces of 60-300 tons. The company would like to purchase a 400-ton press once business is under way, Dummer said.
Capabilities include insert molding, silicone injection molding, engineering and design.
AIMS is owned by Allen, Texas-based Atrion Corp., a maker of surgical and medical devices.
