FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — Composites One, a joint venture composites distributor, has opened its 34th full-size warehouse.
The company, based in Arlington Heights, Ill., launched a 19,000-square-foot distribution center in Irving, Texas, in late 2000, said sales representative Trey Adams.
The company had been shipping products from another site in Fort Smith, Ark., to locations in Texas. The new warehouse gives the company better reach in that region, Adams said during an interview at the recent International Boatbuilders' Exhibition & Conference in Fort Lauderdale.
The center includes areas for cold storage of composites materials, according to Adams. The company distributes more than 1,000 products from more than 200 material suppliers.
The company also plans to launch its first Web site to trade materials later this year, Composites One marketing manager Marcy Offner said at the conference. Few Web sites currently trade composite plastics products, Offner said.
"We're looking forward to developing this market," Offner said. "We hope to have something ready by early fall. It will service customers and eliminate many of the inefficiencies in distribution."
The company was founded in 1999 by GLS Corp. and Total SA's Cook Composites & Polymers Co. unit.
