German firm finishes hot-runner facility
BAHLINGEN, GERMANY — Otto Manner Vertriebs GmbH of Bahlingen has completed a 59,400-square-foot production building for hot-runner systems, investing 12 million deutsche marks ($6 million) in the project.
More than 12,000 needle shut-off nozzles are produced annually for mobile telephone, medical and packaging markets.
The company is part of Manner Group, which includes mold-production sites in Bahlingen and Au, Switzerland, and employs 300. Sales for 2000 were expected to be around DM95 million ($45 million).
Spartech, Eastman sign sheet contract
KINGSPORT, TENN. — Spartech Corp. and Eastman Chemical Co. have signed a marketing agreement to provide Spectar sheet to North American thermoformers and fabricators.
Spartech Plastics, a division of Spartech Corp., will extrude the sheet using Eastman's Spectar copolyester.
Under the agreement, St. Louisbased Spartech becomes the exclusive North American distributor of clear Spectar sheet for display markets. Eastman is based in Kingsport.
Philippines raises tariff rates for PVC
MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Philippine government has raised the tariff rates for imported PVC to 15 percent from the current 10 percent rate.
However, importers are able to apply for a cheaper tariff if they can prove that there is no available supply of a specific material in the domestic market. Certification is handled by the Philippine Board of Investments, based in Manila.
SIG Plastics changes name to SIG PETtec
NORTH BRANCH, N.J. — SIG PETtec is the new name of SIG Plastics International PET bottle machinery business, formerly known as Krupp Corpoplast.
SIG PETtec has opened a technical center at its plant in Troisdorf, Germany, equipped with three Ecomax injection stretch blow molding machines and laboratory equipment.
Last year, SIG Group, a Swiss packaging equipment maker, bought the Krupp Kunststofftechnik GmbH plastics machinery business. The U.S. headquarters, SIG Plastics Technologies USA Inc., is in North Branch.
Goldtooth, English make extrusion dies
COTTAGE GROVE, WIS. — Goldtooth Inc., a manufacturer of embossing equipment for the extrusion industry, will produce extrusion dies designed by Brent English.
English is a well-known consultant in the wood-plastic composites industry. The partnership was formed in part to satisfy some of the tooling problems that accompanied wood-plastic extrusion. Goldtooth and English will work together to provide new extrusion tooling designs specifically for manufacturers of wood-plastic composites, according to a news release.
Goldtooth also announced it recently moved into a new, larger facility in Cottage Grove, and added employees to meet expansion needs for extrusion dies and embossing equipment.

The merged company, which combines package design and industrial design expertise, operates under the name Fisher Design Inc. and has 75 employees. ...
