WASHINGTON — Greenpeace has launched a Web site to help the construction industry find PVC-free materials.
The environmental group launched the site April 25 at www.greenpeace.org.au/pvc. Greenpeace said it has more than 200 products from companies in 17 countries that are free of vinyl. The group considers vinyl environmentally harmful because of the release of dioxins and other pollutants during manufacture and disposal, and metals and phthalates can leach out during use.
"There are readily available alternatives to most, if not all, uses of PVC in construction," said Bill Richardson, national building manager at Washington-based Greenpeace.
