Cloeren Inc. of Orange, Texas, delivered a 228-inch cast film die for making laminating food packaging film from linear low density polyethylene to an unidentified customer in Asia.
Cloeren claims the custom-made flat die is the widest die ever made for laminating film in the world.
Cast film is moving to wider dies, according to John Chalmers, division sales manager for Cloeren. “We have made significant investments in wide-width machining capacity,” he said. The company bought a five-axis computer numerically controlled machining center that can make dies as wide as 551 inches, and a grinder.
Cloeren claims that in the last year, it received more than a dozen orders for dies that measure 188 inches and wider.
