MIDLAND, MICH. - Dow Chemical Co. of Midland has entered the wood-replacement-products business with a Canadian acquisition.
In a May 17 deal, Dow Pipeline Ltd. bought the majority of assets of Isobord Enterprises Inc. of Elie, Manitoba. Terms were not disclosed.
Dow Pipeline Ltd. will undergo a name change as the composite panels become 100 percent of its business, said Kim Shea, a Dow Polyurethanes spokeswoman. Isobord and Dow have worked together since 1998, when Isobord began operations, she said.
Isobord's 215,000-square-foot facility in Elie contains one single continuous press line where wheat straw is ground and blended with PU resin, said Bruce Schrott, Dow biocomposites technology leader.
Dow Chemical has worldwide sales of $30 billion.
