Epco Machinery LLC of Fremont, Ohio, has developed a personal-computer-based extrusion control that uses readily available Maco DS hardware.
Dubbed the EM3, the controller adds extrusion-specific programming for logic and display functions, to control up to five extruders.
EM3 offers either manual or automatic tuning for temperature control, pressure monitoring, drive monitoring, melt pressure control, open-loop or closed-loop control, drive-ratio control and alarms. Other features include the ability to check parameters and follow historical trends.
Each operator station is an Optima PC, with a 15-inch screen that has a Wonderware InTouch interface.
