CLINTON, MASS. - Nypro Inc. has bought a small injection molding factory in France for medical molding and assembly operations, the company said June 19.
The Clinton-based company bought the plant from Mayet Pierre de Bresse SA of Pierre-de-Bresse, France, for undisclosed terms. Nypro bought Mayet's 32,000-square-foot factory in Chartres, France. The facility has 16 injection presses, with the capability to expand to 30.
Nypro, which recently scaled back operations in the southeastern United States as part of a plan to consolidate into regional facilities, plans to add presses in Chartres in the next year. The plant currently has 50 employees.
The plant is Nypro's fifth in Europe and signals its renewed interest in operations there, said spokesman Al Cotton.
``We're being quite aggressive in Europe,'' he said. ``We would anticipate more growth in Europe, certainly within the year.''
Officials with Mayet could not be reached. Mayet's Web site describes the factory as molding fragrance caps and cosmetics products. Cotton said Nypro will have to invest in the operation to bring it up to the standard of the health-care manufacturing industry.
