ST. CLAIR, MICH. - Tony Gill, 58, director of technical services at Pine River Plastics Inc. in St. Clair., died unexpectedly June 22 at his home in Washington Township, Mich. A cause of death has not been determined, a spokesman for Pine River Plastics said June 26.
Gill had more than four decades of experience in the plastics industry, leading corporations on two continents in management positions.
A native of Huddersfield, England, he immigrated to Canada and then to the United States. A holder of five U.S. patents, he held a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering.
His curiosity energized others at Pine River Plastics, a custom injection molder he joined in 1992 as engineering director. He later became director of technical services. He was heavily involved in start-up operations for Pine River in the United Kingdom and, most recently, in South Carolina. He played an important role at the molder, using his vast knowledge of tooling and processing.
His passions included computers, technology, plastics processing, boating, motorcycling and activities with his family.
Gill is survived by his wife, Sharon, daughters Stephanie Lynn, Amanda Ashley and Samantha Jane, and son Mark Andrew.
He was remembered June 27 at services in Algonac, Mich. Memorials may be made in his name to United Way of St. Clair County, Mich.
