FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. - Custom injection molder Moll Industries Inc. on July 11 announced a partnership with a Taiwanese company that gives Moll its first presence in Asia.
Moll and Taiwan Green Point Enterprises Co. Ltd. said their formal partnership will let them link their factories. Neither company is investing in the other, said Bill Teeple, chief financial officer for Fort Lauderdale-based Moll.
``If you look at Moll, we have very good management talent with respect to doing business with Europe and South America,'' Teeple said. ``When you look at the Far East, this seemed to be a much better approach than trying to establish our own expertise.''
TGP is a Taichung, Taiwan-based company with molding and tooling operations in Taiwan; Suzhou and Tianjin, China; and Penang, Malaysia. The privately held company specializes in high-tech and wireless communications applications.
The alliance's first joint customer is Motorola Inc.'s iDen division, which makes mobile telephone components for the Asian and North American markets. The two firms became acquainted through Motorola, Teeple said.
Moll has been restructuring, closing some U.S. plants while expanding others, even as it makes investments in developing markets such as Brazil. Moll also recently opened a sales office in Mexico and is expanding its San Antonio factory, Teeple said.
