Herrmann Ultrasonics Inc. is going digital.
The company's new Dynamic generators for welding machines replace machines with analog components that are subject to aging and wear, according to the company in Schaumburg, Ill.
Analog-based welders also have manufactured-in tolerances, which can lead to inconsistent results. The output signals on the digital units can be calibrated, so they remain precise and consistent over time.
Dynamic generators also can recognize the resonance frequency of the converter/booster/horn-stack operations, automatically adjusting them to its start-up characteristics. Weld horns with a very narrow frequency band can be run because of a digital-frequency-tuning feature.
Also new from Hermann is a Dialog touch-screen controller, run by a personal computer. No special knowledge is required to set up the Windows-based controller.
