HIGH POINT, N.C. - Mesa Industries has started an on-site blow molding operation in Abingdon, Va.
In early August the facility started a PET bottle line for Misty Mountain Spring Water Co., owner of spring-water sites near Highlands, N.C., and the nearby Natahala National Forest. Mesa is making single-serve PET bottles and since July has been molding 1-gallon containers made of high density polyethylene.
The new operation is Mesa's debut in PET markets. It installed a Uniloy Milacron PET reheat blow molding machine, model VersaPet 2663. The unit has variable cavitation for typical production rates up to 1,300 bottles per hour, per cavity.
GE Capital provided financing for the project, the cost of which was not disclosed. High Point-based Mesa recorded sales of $28 million for the year ended Aug. 30.
