A Massachusetts company has developed a radio frequency heater for sheet molding compound that it claims reduces press cure time by 50 percent.
Radio Frequency Co. Inc. of Millis, Mass., said its Macrowave preheater works especially well when molding parts with thick structures and bosses. The SMC is cured uniformly throughout its entire thickness, without the need for a higher temperature differential to force heat by conduction to the center.
Macrowave can heat SMC loads measuring up to 30 inches wide and 84 inches long in less than one minute. The price starts at $75,000.
