DTM Corp., which builds rapid prototyping machines in Austin, Texas, keeps moving into the emerging world of small-lot, rapid manufacturing with its Vanguard and Vanguard HS (for high speed) SLS systems.
Both models became commercially available in August.
Vanguard machines are similar to DTM's core Sinterstation machines, because they both use DTM's selective laser sintering process, or SLS. But Vanguard machines are designed to turn out production-quality parts faster, with finer detail and a smoother surface finish.
Dimensional tolerance data showed a 20 percent improvement for the Vanguard HS SLS over the Sinterstation 2500-plus.
The new machines use an improved proprietary scanning system and something called the Vanguard HS's Celerity beam delivery system.
