Cannon Group's Tecnos unit has developed a production system that uses natural-fiber waste, like flax, coupled with polypropylene to form a multilayer sheet.
The sheet is formed into the rear liner for a new Audi model, said Cannon of Trezzano, Italy.
The sheet is heated in a compression heating station and coupled with two covering materials, typically polyester-based decorative and sound-absorbent fabrics. Those three layers are automatically transferred, after heating, to a double-acting press with no contact between the sheet and the fabrics during the transfer.
The machine can mold about six pieces a minute.
