DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY (Dec. 11, 10 a.m. EST) — Shields Bag & Printing Co. purchased a three-layer blown film line from Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering Co. Inc., the machinery maker announced at K 2001.
Yakima, Wash.-based Shields Bag said the line is to begin production in the second quarter of 2002. A spokesman said the company would not disclose the type of film the line will produce, except to say it complements current business.
Shields Bag makes polyethylene film for several markets, including multilayer, heavy-duty bags and rollstock, reclosable zipper bags, mailer bags, lawn and garden and other consumer bags, and shrink and stretch film.
President Bill Shields said the company has a nearly 40-year relationship with Battenfeld Gloucester.
The film equipment includes Contracool extruders, a Model 900 Autoprofile air ring and a Traversanip oscillating hauloff to control film thickness, reduce variations in gauge and randomize any gauge bands. Other features include a Digisonic IBC Control System and an Extrol system for continuous process control, from feeding through winding.
Gloucester, Mass.-based Battenfeld closed the deal just before the Dusseldorf trade show.
