FLINT, MICH. - Plastics lattice manufacturer Plastics Research Corp. has shut its doors.
The Flint company ceased production and laid off 158 employees as of Jan. 4. Officials would not comment, but the company confirmed the news in a letter to the state's work-force transition unit.
``These have been extremely difficult times for Plastics Research Corp.,'' wrote Carl Schwartz, chief executive officer. ``We worked as hard as we could ... to obtain capital to keep the company operating, but we were unable to do so. It did not become definite until Jan. 4 that we would not be able to obtain the money that we need.''
In November the firm settled a patent dispute with Avon Plastics Inc. of New Albany, Minn. PRC had patent suits pending against Brite-Millwork Inc. of North Billerica, Mass., and Weyerhaeuser USA Inc. in Tacoma, Wash.
