Custom injection molder RTC Inc. has expanded its design capabilities by purchasing Designer Selections.
Designer Selections was owned by Don E. Harley Associates, which sold the business to RTC in mid-February for undisclosed terms. Don Harley, who is 85 years old, will continue working in his former operation under RTC.
Designer Selections brings to RTC a staff of 24 and expertise in design, engineering, model building, fabrication and decorating, according to RTC Vice President Marc Jaker. Both companies are based in St. Paul.
RTC recently moved Designer Selection's assets into its two St. Paul plants, which total 120,000 square feet. Jaker said RTC has done a lot of molding for the purchased firm and the companies' owners know each other well.
RTC had sales of about $9.3 million last year. It has 102 employees who run 17 presses. RTC offers clean-room molding, plating, tool building, insert molding and multishot molding. The firm, established in 1965, is owned by Kathy and Mark Nelson of St. Paul.
Jaker said RTC does a lot of contract manufacturing and is ISO 9001 certified. Its markets include electronics, medical, defense, automotive, containers and consumer products.
