Productivity California lost a substantial portion of its yearly output of outdoor nursery containers in a fire April 12-13.
President Gary Vollers said the losses exceeded $2 million in finished goods and some raw materials. The blaze destroyed about 40 percent of Pro-Cal's 10-acre site in South Gate, but did not damage the 100,000-square-foot facility.
Inspector Armando Carrillo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said about 120 people fought the April 12 blaze.
No injuries were reported, but about 200 residents were evacuated. Falling power lines affected rail traffic.
Pro-Cal uses polypropylene and high density polyethylene, mostly with post-consumer content.
Pro-Cal employs 125 and has annual sales of more than $20 million. The company operates around the clock, has more than 25 injection molding machines with clamping forces of 385-800 tons, several in-line thermoformers and several extrusion lines.
