DOW CHEMICAL CO. - Kurt Swogger is the recipient of the 2002 Earle B. Barnes Award for leadership in chemical research management. He currently is vice president of polyolefins research and development with the Midland, Mich., resin manufacturer. Swogger's achievements include creating several global business ventures, such as DuPont Dow Elastomers LLC.
EUROPEAN PLASTICS CONVERTERS - The federation of European plastics processing trade groups elected Bernhard Borgardt chairman of its packaging division; Borgardt is from RPC Group plc in Raunds, England. The following were selected as deputy chairmen: Richard Searle of London-based Britton Group Plastics Ltd.; Francis Pascal of Paris-based Autobar Packaging Group; and Marcel de Botton of Cascais, Portugal-based Logoplaste SA. Each was elected to a two-year term with Brussels, Belgium-based EuPC.
FERROMATIK MILACRON NORTH AMERICA - The Cincinnati-based supplier of molding machines names Hermann Plank director of multicomponent technologies. Plank was most recently managing director of Ferromatik Milacron Europe's North American operations.
GREIF BROS. CORP. - Donald Huml has been named chief financial officer of the packaging firm based in Delaware, Ohio. Huml replaces Joseph Reed, who will retire later this year.
GUIDE CORP. - The automotive lighting systems supplier based in Pendleton, Ind., has promoted Chuck Wittum to director of materials management. Wittum was the firm's purchasing manager.

PLASTICS PIPE INSTITUTE - Gene Palermo, technical director for the Washington-based trade group, has been recognized by two associations for his contributions to the plastics pipe industry. The American Society for Testing and Materials International, based in West Conshohocken, Pa., has honored Palermo with its 2002 Frank W. Reinhart and Henry ``Butch'' Kuhlmann Award. Palermo received that award due to his role as chairman of an ASTM subcommittee. He will also receive the American Gas Association's Silver Award of Merit for outstanding leadership, original authorship and organizational service.
