Huhtamäki Americas will consolidate tooling and equipment operations in North and South America for its plastics and wood-fiber businesses.
The firm said some tool production and equipment assets will start to move from New Vienna, Ohio, to its headquarters in De Soto in August. Plastic injection molding and thermoforming operations in New Vienna will not be affected by the move. De Soto is a paperboard and machine shop plant.
Huhtamäki will relocate its Waterville, Maine, machine shop to De Soto and to Curitiba, Brazil. Waterville molds wood fiber, and the Curitiba site includes thermoforming and injection molding.
The moves coincide with Huhtamäki Food Service Inc.'s plan to relocate food-packaging production from East Providence, R.I., to an expanded facility in Coleman, Mich., and to New Vienna to cut costs. Parent company Huhtamäki Oyj is based in Espoo, Finland.
