The Industrial Designers Society of America has won a bid to host a 2007 international congress in San Francisco. Dulles-based IDSA's effort received particular support from the San Francisco-area offices of design firms IDEO Product Development and Fitch Inc., and material maker Eastman Chemical Co. of Kingsport, Tenn.
The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design made the award at an October meeting in Seoul, South Korea. IDEO co-founder Bill Moggridge agreed to chair the congress.
Eastman sponsored a reception in Seoul and provided three-dimensional lenticular copolyester for the cover of a Fitch-designed IDSA bid brochure and a pop-up cube that IDSA gave to delegates.
``We decided to support the effort in trying to create better understanding of what we do,'' said Gaylon White, director of business promotions for Eastman's specialty plastics business.
