Sarna Polymer Holding Inc. is building a new injection molding plant in Germany that will serve as the company's automotive technology center in Europe.
The Sarnen-based company's Sarnamotive unit will build the operation at an existing company site in Ludenscheid, Germany.
Sarna - which acquired Marysville, Mich.-based injection molder Blue Water Plastics Inc. in 2000 - will close a nearby plant in Marienheide, Germany, when the new plant opens. Sarnamotive has three other German plants.
``We are giving the market and our customers a clear signal that the Sarna Group intends to grow in the automobile industry,'' said Walter Meyer, chairman and chief executive officer.
``Our aim in making this move was to be on the leading edge of technology in Europe,'' said Ralf Timm, head of Sarnamotive Europe, which employs about 1,000.
Sarnamotive has about 130 injection presses in Germany. The new plant will add about 15 presses and will include a new paint shop.
