FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (June 10, 10 a.m. EDT) — Fast Industries is expanding its Fort Lauderdale profile extrusion plant to accommodate sales growth in retail display products and in its relatively new custom profiles business.
The firm will add 50,000 square feet to its 95,000-square-foot facility at an undisclosed cost by late 2002, according to recently hired marketing director Joyce Cress. Among its equipment additions will be injection molding capability, which is to begin next year.
Fast extrudes and assembles price label displays, sign holders, hooks and related display goods using commodity and engineering thermoplastics. Early this year it diversified into nonretail markets, Cress said. Swimming pools, recreation, appliances and furniture are among its new markets.
The company's profile sales grew about 25 percent last year to $15 million, Fast reported. It did about another $5 million of business in a proprietary line of household chemical products such as cleaners and deodorizers.
The firm recently appointed Ralph Rojas as chief operating officer. In addition to managing an aggressive growth plan, Rojas is to help Fast earn ISO 9000 certification status this year.
